Location. The Belle Epoque Swissotel Metropole hotel in Geneva, Switzerland, is one block from Lake Geneva. St Pierre Cathedral is 500 metres from the hotel and the Grand Theatre is one kilometre away. The hotel is one kilometre from Gare de Cornavin station, and six kilometres from Geneva International Airport (GVA).
Hotel Features. Built in 1854 on former battlegrounds, the lakeview Swissotel Metropole was a World War II Red Cross base. Refurbished in the 1980s, it maintains its original exterior. Guests go up a grand staircase to the high ceilinged lobby, with chandeliers and grey stone columns.

Le Grand Quai restaurant is decorated in Belle Epoque style with red and gold drapes, trompe d'oeil (eye trick) paintings and a chandelier. It serves traditional French cuisine, and guests can eat on the cobble square outside in the summer. The hotel's lobby bar has a grand piano and leather seating. Sandwiches and wine are served in the contemporary Le Bistropole restaurant.

The hotel's six meeting rooms host up to 350 people. The hotel has a mezzanine level business centre with two PCs and wireless Internet access.

The fourth floor Amrita Fitness Centre has a fully equipped gym with TV mounted exercise bikes.

Expert Tip. The lakeview rooftop terrace hosts buffet dinners in the summer. The terrace is worth visiting for its Lake Geneva views.
